Science revision can be tough work - there is a lot to memorize and learn. Here are our top 10 science revision tips:
- Find a quiet place to study with a comfortable chair and good lighting.
- Have everything at hand. For science revision you'll probably need a calculator, ruler, protractor and reference books (and paper and pen of course!).
- Create memory cards. On one side write a question and on the other the answer. Test yourself with these cards drawn out at random.
- Get hold of past exam papers to practice on.
- Devise mnemonics, for example "CHA" for cosine(a)=Adjacent/Hypotenuse.
- Get some sleep and exercise. Staying up until 2am will just tire you out and whatever you are studying won't sink in. Keep your brain awake and oxygenated to maximize retention.
- Plan your science revision. Allocate hours to each area and set milestones and review points to make sure you're on track. Allow at least a few days extra to go back over weaker areas and do a final recap of all topics.
- Find out exactly how much time you will have in the exam, how many questions there are and exactly where and when it will take place well in advance.
- Eat well - your brain will only fire on all cylinders if it's well fed! Think fruit, fish and lots of water.
- Be positive! Panicking will do you no good. Breathe deeply and tackle areas you feel confident about before moving onto trickier subjects to build your confidence.
A well structured approach to your science revision will pay off in the exam. After the exam don't compare your answers with other peoples as it's pointless and will probably only result in making one of you worried about the results.
