Private swimming pools are pools that have restricted access.
This could be a private apartment block pool, a private backyard swimming pool or even the private swimming pool at your local gym.
If you are lucky enough to have access to a private swimming pool this is a great place to start your swimming lessons. As well as being quieter than the public pool, you are more likely to be able to arrange for a teacher to come to you at a time that fits into your schedule rather than having to go to the busy pool for a lesson on a Saturday morning.
Unfortunatley, private swimming pools are often underused. I have often been to visit friends in apartment blocks with their own pools only to find that they haven't even considered going in for a dip. Although some guys may do some laps in the morning the pool goes largely ignored for the rest of the day.
Backyard private swimming pools are generally used much more in the summer months. There must be nothing better than just jumping into your home pool on a blisteringly hot day, instead of fighting through the sun-bathers at the beach.
Gym pools may be popular with some visitors, but are generally too small for swimming laps and are just used for a relaxing wind-down after a workout. Some gyms have added a 'jet' - a jet of water for swimmers to swim against - to make the pool into more of a workout area, but they aren't very popular and the pool can often be deserted, even on a busy day for the rest of the gym.
Private swimming pools can be very popular - particularly if they are in your backyard. However, there are many gorgeous pools that are wasted spaces as they are only used occasionally.
