Learning to swim is one of the most important, challenging and rewarding things you will ever do. For some people learning to swim happens easily for others they struggle for a long time with it. The younger you start to learn to swim the better. People can however learn to swim at any age, even people with disabilities. Swimming is also the best exercise there is. It improves aerobic fitness and anaerobic fitness and is low impact (i.e. it doesn't put pressure on your joints).
Learning to swim could also save your life or the life of someone you care about. It's an essential skill if you or your child are regularly near water. We recommend you also do a course in CPR and basic first aid.
You can learn to swim in a public swimming pool. We've found that the best results are obtained by having a number of one-on-one classes, preferably at home if you have a pool. One-on-one private swimming lessons can really fast-track your swimming skills and will build confidence quickly.
