Keyboard lessons (or piano lessons) are a great way to get started when learning music. Learning to play the keyboard will introduce you to a wide range of skills that are transferable on to any other instrument you may choose to learn later on.
You can pick up a cheap keyboard for $30 these days which will be perfectly usable to learn chords, progressions and rhythm. Of course the more money you spend on a keyboard the better it will be - but be aware that only the really top-end keyboards have the same "feel" as a piano and transitioning from a keyboard with small keys to a piano can be hard.
